It’s taken an age for me to get myself organised to actually give a **** about how I document my work. You may (or may not) have noticed that I’ve recently updated the images in the “paintings” section of this website. Previously I’ve snapped my paintings with an iPhone. Now, iPhone’s have very decent built-in cameras on the whole, but they’re simply not suited to capturing (with accuracy) flat objects against a wall – you know, like a painting.

Above you’ll see two images – the first was shot on an iPhone, which looks perfectly acceptable? But once you see the second image, which was taken with care, on a tripod with manual white-balance, exposure etc, you can see that it’s a different beast entirely. It’s more detailed, the colours are much closer to the actual painting (crucially) and I feel that I’m representing myself better. After 30 years (plus) doing this painting malarky, I’m finally trying to be professional when it comes to all that stuff you do once the painting bit’s done.
