It’s been a little while, but I’ve finally managed a bit of time back in the studio. A pleasing effort that won’t win any prizes, but importantly, it gets me motivated once more and that’s such a necessary feeling for any artist.

Pink Pig have come a long way

I enjoy working on the square format and recently rediscovered an old sketchbook that I bought some time ago (over ten years ago? That’s highly possible). It was made by the pink pig paper company and the quality isn’t great, but iot was square and that was good enojugh for me to get down some ideas. I used all the pages in this book shortly before Christmas and decided to get a few more – not expecting great quality, but it suits me for its size.
I was delighted to receive my 5 new sketchbooks this morning – and even happier to note that the quality of these books are so superior to my humble little workhorse – with good quality acid free pages shining back at me, I can see that the Pink Pig Paper company have come a very long way since I purchased that little book some 15 years ago.

To coincide with my new-found studio practice optimism, and to some extent my new life in general, I’ve updated this tired old site. I’ll make an effort to update a lot more than I was, but I ain’t gonna promise anything!
Included in this new layout, you might have noticed a new ‘Inspiration’ section. Here I will occasionally write a little bit about artists whom I admire or those that I have recently happened across and wish to share my findings.

So… who is this Keith Murdoch anyway?

Born in Liverpool in 1972, Keith spent his formative years in the Anfield district of the city. After a forray into sciences at school and sixth form, Keith settled on his passion for painting as a chosen career path and enrolled on a foundation course at City College, Liverpool in 1991. It was here that his eyes where really opened to the glory of painting, the science of colour and the scariness of complete freedom. Although Keith was showing himself to be a very accomplished painter, confidence was not yet in his makeup and he was surprised to be offered a place on the then highly prized Fine Art degree course at Preston Polytechnic (quickly renamed University of Central Lancashire after the UK educational shake-up of summer 1992)… more to come
